 The Legends West Course is a respectful tribute to the classic courses and elegant lifestyle of an era gone by. It is dedicated to the notion that the best and truest things about the game should never change.
Surrounded on all sides by rolling hillsides and undulating vineyards, lined by blue oak, carved by creeks and canyons, the Legends West Course makes time stand still -- if only for a moment. Although the fairways are forgiving, the small greens require touch and imagination, while the deep and numerous bunkers can be punishing. In the future, four additional golf courses will be designed and created by the world's top designers.
The Legends West has a heritage as distinguished as the game itself. Co-designed by Jack Nicklaus and Gene Sarazen, two champions of the game, a round at this classic par 72 is fun for those who love to be challenged, as well as those who love to get out and enjoy a good walk.
Jack said, "Diablo Grande has a marvelous setting for a golf course. With the existing vineyards and rolling hills, we had a wonderful canvas on which to work. The natural terrain and its movement afforded us the ability to enhance rather than create. The end result were some very unique golf holes. I thought we produced a very pretty, playable golf course in the middle of the Diablo Mountains in California. It's a golf course in which I certainly enjoyed being involved."
Although they played in different eras, their collective careers span the golden age of the game. Sarazen will always be conscience of the game Nicklaus its competitive edge. Out of these two distinct personalities was forged a course like none other in the world. A course that will rank with names like Cypress Point, Royal Troon and Seminole.
Gene Sarazen said, "It was a pleasure and an honor to be able to be part of The Legends West Club at Diablo Grande. To be able to collaborate with Jack Nicklaus in building a truly great golf course in one of the most beautiful settings nature could provide, is a fitting sunset for my career." 1902 to 1999
